Mike recently returned as chief executive officer of J.C. Penney to lead a turnaround of the company after an unsuccessful strategy was undertaken to move the retailer upmarket. He retired as chairman and chief executive officer of J.C. Penney in 2012, having served since 2004.  Mike currently serves as deputy chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas and a director of Starbucks. Mike is chairman of Mercy Ships International and is also a director of F.I.R.S.T., a global charity that sponsors high school robotics competitions designed to motivate youth to pursue an education and career in science and technology.  He also serves on the board of directors of the Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA). Mike and his wife Cathy have been married for 45 years and have 6 children and 7 grandchildren. They reside in Dallas, Texas.
