A Community of Leaders
Sometimes explaining why our members join PathNorth is hard to put into words. But we like the way one member put it: “A doctor may hand you medicine, but what he gives you is health.” PathNorth is like that in a lot of ways. We’ve built a tribe of successful leaders and we bring them together at our unique experiences. There, we create an environment where our members connect on a deep and genuine level. In that rarified air, the real reason our members are part of PathNorth becomes clear. They experience life-changing, deeply personal conversations with peers they can confide in and truly trust. Participants leave refreshed and with a renewed sense of purpose, often with insights about themselves that change the course of their lives.
"It’s really about a safe place where you can come and open up your heart and ask those questions that, in other situations, you wouldn’t because you don’t want people to think that you’re stupid, that you really don’t know what’s going on. And I think that’s a key for a lot of us CEOs, that deep inside a lot of times we’re kind of winging it, we’re going where we believe we should go but we don’t necessarily know that it’s right. To be able to come and to hear other CEOs say, ‘hey, you know, I’ve had that experience and here’s how I worked through it,’ and to be able to ask those questions in an environment where no one looks down at you or is taking competitive advantage by knowing your weaknesses is very strong for me." - H. Wayne Huizenga, Jr., President, Huizenga Holdings
PathNorth hosts annual events throughout the U.S. Our Annual Gathering brings together our entire community in Washington, New York City, and for the first time in 2017, Charleston, South Carolina. Members gather to hear from distinguished guests and spend time together in a setting unlike any other. The John C. Whitehead Salon Series on Civility and Meaning regularly brings together accomplished leaders in intimate settings throughout the country where we've shared conversations with guests like Tim Shriver, the Chairman of the Special Olympics, and General Mike Hayden, former Director of the CIA.
"PathNorth provides a safe place, a safe environment where we can talk about issues I consider to be the most essential." - François M. de Visscher, President, de Visscher & Co.
"Productive conversations that impact a person’s life are not unusual at PathNorth." - David Freeman, Co-Founder, Sonoma Valley Writers and Ideas Festival
We’ve heard the personal stories of Abigail Disney, an accomplished filmmaker, and legendary tennis player Stan Smith, former world No. 1 American tennis player and Wimbledon champion. This series of conversations both enlighten our lives and function as a place where our members deepen their relationships and share open and honest dialogue about what matters most.
Members have the opportunity to participate in extensive multi-day Experiences in some of the most unique destinations in the world. Recent Experiences have taken our members to the vineyards of Sonoma, the streets of Cuba, Westminster Palace in London, the beaches of Normandy, the Orient Express with a world-class magician on board, and off-the-beaten path into the wonders of India.
"PathNorth's journey to Cuba opened my eyes to more than a beautiful country crumbling from within and her resilient, courageous, and spirited people. Our daily reflections led by Doug, and our daily conversations with local artists and musicians challenged me to question who is the voice that defines my self-opinion? Isn't it interesting that a trip to a communist country with no internet nor cell service quieted my mind so the liberation of self could begin? Liberation from my unnecessary self-talk and actions that have oppressed me for so long. I will be forever grateful for a new beginning, and the wonderful new friends and memories made. There is nothing quite like sipping a "Papa Hemingway" in Ernest Hemingway's beloved El Floridita, listening to an original Buena Vista Social Club member sing, or especially driving throughout the streets of beautiful Havana, horns a blaring, in a 1958 pink Chevy convertible!" - Cynthia Butz, reflecting on the Cuba Experience
PathNorth Experiences provide members a time to transcend the busyness of modern life and connect with other members in unparalleled settings. Here we stretch comfort zones through curated adventures like zip-lining at the base of the Santa Catalina Mountains in Arizona or biking the varied terrain of the Dalmatian Coast of Croatia. The combination of setting and adventure have led to deep and intimate conversations among our members where genuine stories are shared. This human connection is transformative and inspirational, changing how we think and impacting our lives long after. See our upcoming Experiences here.
Curated content is a significant component of the PathNorth experience. Weekly reflections, substantial writings and inspirational videos help to provide a deeper look into the PathNorth ethos.
