Jim serves as the Chief Technologist, Development Programs for Systems & Technology Research (STR) in Arlington, VA. STR is a middle-market, agile company focused on national security problems with an elite technical team that produces solutions in signal processing and sensors, acoustic signal processing and sensors, cyber physical security, and command and control, as well as data sciences and analytics. Jim’s primary role is helping the individual STR teams leverage the technology solutions developed from basic research and development into existing and future programs.
Previously, Jim served for 28+ years on active duty in the US Navy. His final job was as a Major Program Manager and Commanding Officer of the navy’s Advanced Sensor Technologies Program Office. In that role, he was responsible for developing, testing, fielding and sustaining the Navy’s most advanced airborne radar systems. Prior to leading the Advanced Sensor Technologies Program Office, he was responsible for the early development of the US Navy’s MQ-4C Triton, a large unmanned aircraft system responsible for providing real-time intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance over the vast oceans and coastal regions; he has additional experience across a host of military airborne platforms and sensors. Jim’s passion remains solving hard problems with innovative solutions from across a domain of research areas.
