managing member, CBR properties
Jim Hawes is a native North Carolinian who spent much of his “formative years” in Manhattan. He graduated from the University of Virginia in 1971 with a degree in economics honors and subsequently managed to snag an MBA. He is passionate about animals, fast cars, travel, history, architecture and good (actually, great) design. He would call himself a highly functioning introvert; “I use my introversion well.”
After years of working for Fortune 500 companies in marketing and technology capacities, and a stint in the foreign service of the United States, he founded his design firm Caldwell-Beebe Ltd., grew it until it took over his life, and then moved on so that he could focus on the next 100 years of his life. Jim is the managing member of a family owned company, CBR Properties, which has real estate holdings in Virginia, North Carolina, Louisiana and Oklahoma, among others. He has enjoyed growing the company ten fold since beginning his tenure and growing personally along with it. Never one to talk freely about his accomplishments for fear of boring others, Jim much prefers to listen – a rare art form, apparently. He finds it stimulating and claims it makes him infinitely more interesting to be around.
Jim resides in McLean, Virginia, in the company of dogs.
