| During our January
PATHNORTH gathering in New York, we unveiled an
exciting, new initiative called PATHNORTH Experiences.
The thinking behind this effort is to gather various PATHNORTH
members to participate in some pretty unusual and exciting things
that will, in turn, cause us to think differently about ourselves
and our world. These times will be quite unique in and of themselves,
but the underlying value will be the chance to process and have
conversations of significance both formally and informally around
our events. Each year, we intend to host at least two such PATHNORTH
Experiences, one on the east coast and the other on the
west.
The first such experience was held
April 2-4 in Norfolk, Virginia.
The former Secretary of the Navy
and PATHNORTH Board member, John H. Dalton, arranged
for a small group of us to spend two days onboard the carrier USS
Theodore Roosevelt in the Atlantic. This experience included a private
tour of an active submarine, a private dinner with the Commander
of the U.S. Fleet Forces, Jonathan Greenert and other leaders, a
flight out to the carrier on a C-2 including a 'tail hook' landing
on the deck of the carrier and an overnight stay aboard the ship.

Greenert and Doug Holladay organized and hosted twelve PATHNORTH
Members at this singular gathering.
